Modelling complex learning spaces: connecting use, management and design
This project is intended to change the way people think about the role of learning spaces in higher education. It brings together a team of researchers from education and architecture who are also professionally involved in the design and management of university learning spaces, both physical and digital.
The annual spend on educational infrastructure worldwide far exceeds the GDP of many countries. However, research to date offers little guidance about the connections between educational outcomes and investment in buildings and IT. The aim of this project is to begin the process of decoding this complexity by creating new ways of understanding the relations between space, technology and learning; and providing ideas and evidence that will help students, teachers, managers and architects do better. Thereby increasing the return on investment in higher education not by focusing on efficiency, but on generative learning activity.
